Washington # 1 Bellevue brought a 54-game consecutive winning streak to Oceanside for the 2014 Honor Bowl as they took on California # 11 Serra (Gardena).
Honor Bowl MVP # 22 Sam Richmond scored three times for the Wolverines as Bellevue was able to move the ball during methodical and effective drives.
Dueces are wild. When Bellevue won the 19th Annual MaxPreps Holiday Classic at Torrey Pines (boys basketball) in 2008 junior Aaron Bright ’10 was MVP of the tournament and he also wore # 22. And both Richmond and Bright kinda look similar, like they are brothers or at least cousins.
Bellevue began their now 55-game winning streak on September 17, 2010 with a 42-0 win over Interlake (Bellevue, WA). The Wolverines have the third longest active winning streak with Ithaca (MI) having won 58 games straight and Pahranaget Valley (Alamo, NV) having won 71 straight as an 8-man team.
Bellevue was the team that snapped De La Salle’s (Concord, CA) national record of 151 consecutive winning streak with a 39-20 win before 24,987 fans at Qwest Field (home of the Seahawks) on September 4, 2004.
The Belleuve, Serra game was the marquee event of the two-day, five game edition of The Honor Bowl at Oceanside. There was also an Honor Bowl at Del Oro (Loomis, CA) last weekend.
Bellevue also brought their cheerleaders and marching band from Washington and at the Honor Bowl schools pay for their own travel expenses so that more proceeds go to injured military personnel.
