Centennial has become a grid-hoop powerhouse in Southern California having reached the state title game in both sports. This year the Huskies are a top five preseason team in California thanks to a strong starting five.
In the state title game last year the Huskies fell short against NoCal # 1 seed Monte Vista (Danville, CA) (32-1) 66-55 but Centennial shot 28 percent in that game.
Sedrick Barefield is the Top Dog
This year’s Husky team is led by SMU-bound point guard Sedrick Barefield ’15 who has the experience and game to make the clutch play when necessary.
Barefield’s dad, Ray Barefield, played basketball at SDSU before going on to a professional career. Sedrick Barefield models his game after Kyrie Irving.
Barefield Beat the Semifinal Buzzer Last Year
Last year in the National Division semifinal vs. Chino Hills (CA) Barefield made a floater at the buzzer to defeat Chino Hills 77-75 before Centennial lost to a loaded Loyola (Los Angeles, CA) team in the championship game the next night.
Other Strong Huskies
Senior Kyle Hamilton ‘15, a 6-3 forward, can be another player who is capable of stepping up to lead Centennial.
Centennial shoots well from the perimeter thanks to 6-4 shooting guard Khalil Ahmad ’15 and the Huskies have good size in the paint with 6-9 junior center Ike Anigbogu ‘16 and 6-9 sophomore forward Jalen Hill ’17.
Centennial In Las Vegas This Weekend
Centennial lost to Redondo Union (Redondo Beach, CA) 55-54 in the Tarkanian Classic semifinal in Las Vegas, NV this weekend. Redondo will also be in the National Division this year.
