The Trojans of High Point, North Carolina are the defending state champions (Independent 3A), have won five state titles as a school and are loaded with senior talent. The Christian Academy will play a national schedule all season long and was ranked # 22 in the USA Today national preseason rankings.
The Trojans have been playing games since early November and played legendary program Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA) on December 20th. The Trojans also have Findley Prep (Henderson, NV) on their schedule for January 20th at the Basketball Hall of Fame Hoophall Classic.
Wesleyan is led by North Carolina signee 6-6 wing Theo Pinson ’14 who won the 2013 Under Armour Elite 24 Slam Dunk Contest over the summer by dunking over his mother. Pinson was a grid-hoop star early on playing QB for his middle school team but he got hit very hard on his last play of middle school football and decided that football wasn’t his sport.
The other two senior leaders are 6-0 senior point guard JaQuel Richmond ’14 who is headed to Houston while 6-7 senior power forward Donovan Gilmore ’14 will play at the College of Charleston.
6-10 power forward Harry Giles ’16 is one of the nation’s top sophomores and played on the USA U16 national team. Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina are among schools that have offered Harry Giles but he won’t play in the Holiday Classic this year. Giles torn his ACL, MCL and meniscus in June playing for the national team in Uruguay for the FIBA World Championships and he is just starting his rehab.
The Trojans have “The Red Sea” student fans behind them during home games, will any make it out to Torrey Pines?
