JayDee Luster ’07, Hoover (San Diego, CA)
Hoover’s JayDee Luster ’07 was a human highlight film that dazzled the crowds with dribbles, passes and shots. Luster in his junior season led the Cardinals to their first CIF title since 1962, the 2006 Division II section championship, while breaking the all-time career steals record (since broken by Kalob Hatcher ’10) and tieing the all-time assists record in San Diego. JayDee Luster’s first assist in his senior season broke the all-time San Diego record (since broken again by Kalob Hatcher ’10) and if not for an injury he would have been only the second player in the nation (Jason Kidd, Alameda St. Joseph) to record 2,000 points, 1000 assists and 500 steals. Luster was the state freshman of the year, Student Sports Junior All-American as well as many other honors. JayDee Luster signed with New Mexico State to learn under former NBA guard and head coach Reggie Theus but Theus left to be the head coach for the Sacramento Kings. After a year under a new head coach at New Mexico State Luster transferred to Wyoming for the 2008-09 season and was a redshirt sophomore in the 2009-10 season.
